Position Summary:
The eICU is a virtual ICU located in Westwood , MA . The eICU mid-level provider is expected to provide continuous vigilance, early intervention and ongoing care with the goal to decrease ICU-related morbidity and mortality. In addition, the eICU mid-level provider is expected to exercise the highest level of expertise so as to optimize quality of care under the supervision of the eICU Program medical Director. Finally, the eICU mid-level provider should attempt to decrease unnecessary burdens upon the attending physician staff.

Responsibilities:Administrative Responsibilities:
Demonstrates excellent interpersonal/customer service skills as evidenced by the following:

  • Exhibits communication skills that facilitate interchange between health care workers to provide quality patient care/outcome.
  • Is articulate; uses eye contact and appropriate body language, and is an active listener.
  • Asks appropriate, probing questions to identify accurate clinical picture.
  • Assumes ownership for problems and works to provide a resolution.
  • Follows through with issues in a timely fashion.
  • Demonstrates enthusiasm and interest in response to calls to the eICU center.
  • Determines attending mid-level provider categorization regarding level of interaction with each patient.
Clinical Responsibilities:
  • Provides near continuous attendance to the electronic console during the shift.
  • Facilitates bedside attendance by MD, PA, NP etc, as needed for procedures, bedside evaluations, or bedside interventions after discussion with the attending/managing mid-level provider or primary care provider and at the discretion of same.
  • Responsible for note writing and documentation. All documentation should be completed before leaving the eICU center at end of shift.
  • Communicates with the on-site intensivists, emergency room mid-level provider, surgeon, anesthesiologists, hospitalists, house staff, transferring mid-level provider or admitting mid-level provider, whichever is appropriate, in order to obtain patient care plan.
Quality Responsibilities:
  • Effectively communicates with members of the eICU center team and bedside ICU interdisciplinary team in a collegial manner to provide safe and error-free care during routine care and emergent conditions. Provides courteous, enthusiastic phone communication to employees at hospital sites.
  • Compiles with best practices and other care directives that the hospital has endorsed in response to Performance Improvement initiatives.
  • Reports clinical, administrative or technical problems (using a defined reporting process) that result in medical errors, unsafe care or sub optimal communication between eICU center and ICU health care professionals.
Qualifications:
5 years of Critical Care experience MA Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant License Certified Acute Care Nurse Practitioner
