Qualifications:

The RN staff nurse assumes primary responsibility for the assessment, planning, and electronic documentation for future surgical patients.. A Nurse Clinician II plans and sets goals which demonstrate a holistic approach to patients and families. Assumes leadership responsibilities at the unit level. Demonstrates a mastery of clinical skills. Accountabilities: 1. Nurse/Patient Relationship: Develops and maintains a therapeutic relationship throughout the healthcare continuum 2. Assuring/Improving Quality Care: Facilitates the patient and familys right to receive quality, cost effective care 3. Patient/Staff Education: Demonstrates a commitment to meeting the learning needs of patients and families. Utilizes appropriate resources to meet those needs and achieve positive patient outcomes. Assists in creating an environment that promotes educational growth opportunities for nursing peers and colleagues 4. Nursing Process: Demonstrates the use of nurs! ing process as a problem-solving model. 5. Leadership/Collaboration/Professional Development: Demonstrates respect and understanding for peers and other clinical disciplines and participates as an effective member of the patient care team to formulate an integrated approach to care. Position: Nurse Clinician II Department: Day Surgery Center Date of original submission: Oct. 1, 2003 Date of review: May 6, 2006 Application of Accountabilities as Evidenced By 1. Nurse/Patient Relationship a. Demonstrates the ability to prioritize patients needs, due a head to toe assessment, and provide pre-operative education to the pre-surgical patient. b. Rounding hourly on patients and attending to their needs and upadating the patients and families on any delays.. c. Provide emotional support during the pre-operative process. 2. Assuring/Improving Quality Care a. Completes and documents patients his! tory, assessment, any pertinent medical history, and current medication! s in Care Connection. b. Collaborates with the anesthesiologist and other health team members regarding the pre-operative care of the surgical patient. c. Demonstrates compliance with all HIPAA regulations and insures patient privacy in the Day Surgery Center.. 3. Education/Competency a. Demonstrates completion of required clinical unit-based competencies for theDay Surgery Center. b. Demonstrates knowledge base of all Infection Control Policies/Procedures which govern the Day Surgery Center. c. Validates M.D. orders according to policy and procedure. 4. Nursing Process a. Develops a plan of care and communicates the plan of care to all pertinent departments in Perioperative Services. b. Demonstrates the ability to assess outcomes and trending through the reporting and data collection process. c. Insures that the pre-op and surgical site verification markings are done per physician or designee.. 5. Leadership/Collaboration/Professional Development a. Actively participates i! n the achievement of team goals and completes all assignments and areas of team responsibilities.. b. Attends hospital-wide forums and staff meetings and reviews minutes and shares information in an accurate and timely manner. c. Demonstrates reliability for time and attendance. d. Role model MVP and represents the department in a positive manner. e. Works independently while maintains adaptability and flexibility for change.
