Cardiopulmonary Perfusionist Services at the Edward Hines Jr. VA Hospital, 5000 South 5th Avenue, Hines, IL, to include specifically: one (1) full-time Board Certified Perfusionist and two (2) on-call Board Certified Perfusionists. The Perfusionist for weekday on-site coverage is required Monday through Friday from 7:00am-3:30 pm, with a half-hour non-paid lunch. Services to be provided include bypass, cell saving, management of balloon pump, equipment maintenance and troubleshooting, and other types of procedures that are common services provided by a Perfusionist.

The two (2) on-call Perfusionists for daytime and nighttime coverage are required twenty-four (24! ) hours a day, five (5) days per week, Monday through Friday, ! from 7:00am to 7:00am. On-call coverage is also required for Federal Holidays for twenty-four (24) hours a day, from 7:00am to 7:00am and on Weekends from Friday 3:30pm to 7:00am Monday. On-call Perfusionists are required to set up balloon pumps and provide emergency services. Perfusionists shall respond, via telephone, to on-call required situations within fifteen (15) minutes and shall arrive at the Edward Hines Jr.

VA Hospital and report to the Attending Operating Room Surgeon within sixty (60) minutes of initial call-in response. Contractor Perfusionists shall handle all scheduling issues and concerns with the VA\\\'s operating room (OR) nurse manager. Schedules will be in place at least ninety (90) days in advance, with schedules surrounding major holidays completed six (6) months prior to the holiday. Specific Perfusionist duties include: Work with other members of VA staff (surgeons, anesthesiologist, and nursing staff) as part of the team that is providing ! care to patients and aids in tailoring perfusion needs to each patient.

Set up and run a Haemonetics CellSaver5 machine and Harmony Suction unit during procedures. Document Patient treatment to any/all clinical records immediately following the procedure, which includes documenting in the electronic patient record. Maintain a quality assurance program pertaining to perfusion services. Ensure perfusion services comply with all applicable Joint Commission (JC) guidelines with respect to surgical procedures.

Comply with appropriate and applicable policies, procedures and regulations of the Hines VA. Examples include rules and regulations, narcotic control and use, personnel policies, infection control, and medical records. Notify appropriate VA personnel when maintenance is required on VA equipment, daily routine exterior maintenance of VA equipment, and shall be completely versed in the operation of all equipment so repairs could be improvised on an emergent! basis in the event of equipment failure. Contribute to the Quality Ass! urance/Management of the hospital.

Collect, provide, and discuss quality assessment data to include mortality and morbidity data, clinical outcomes, and adverse events quarterly amongst the cardio-thoracic team members for the purpose of identifying areas of improvement. Maintain responsibility for a wide range of mechanical life support systems. Administers life support via cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) must be administered to a varied patient population independently, safely, and efficiently. Monitors and maintains many patient parameters during CPB.

This includes the regulation of blood pressure, heart rate, urinary output, arterial and venous blood gases, acid/base status, blood coagulation, temperature and myocardial protection. In addition, the mechanical parameters of the circuit must be constantly assessed. The perfusionist must remain alert, attentive, and respond appropriately to changes and problems with the patient or equipment. The individual m! ust be fully prepared to evaluate and interpret any patient or mechanical response.

Operate an auto transfusion device independently during Intraoperative auto transfusion procedures, ensuring a safe blood product. Monitor and adjust timing for proper inflation and deflation of iota-aortic blood pump devices independently during implantation procedures and trouble-shoot the device when not working properly. Provide advice on system management of the ventricular assist devices to ensure optimal performance. Set-up and operate equipment and monitor the patient during the Hemofiltration cardiac procedures.

Administer the cardioplegia with an understanding of delivery rates, antegrade, and retrograde routes during myocardial protection procedures. Participate in appropriate VA conferences related to clinical perfusion services and coordinate with the VA to insure appropriate protocols are put into place at VA. Provide recommendations on capital equipment and d! isposable supply purchases. Personnel assigned by the contractor to per! form the services covered by this task order shall have a full and unrestricted license in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States or the District of Columbia.

The Perfusionists are required to have completed an accredited university-based perfusion program and be board certified as a clinical Perfusionist as recognized by the American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion and have a minimum of three years documented experience in clinical perfusion. The Perfusionists must possess a high degree of innovation and organizational skills. He/she requires a high level of accountability for independent and interdependent decision making under minimal supervision, as he/she alone shall have the awareness, knowledge, and expertise to rectify any situations that can be life threatening. The technical complexity of this position requires the Perfusionist to have a complete understanding of cardiac, congenital pediatrics, pulmonary, vascular and orthotopic transp! lantation procedures, as well as, knowledge and experience to be thoroughly familiar with the operation and programming of balloon pumps, heart-lung machines, and cell savers.

Personnel assigned by the contractor to perform the services covered by this task order shall be proficient in written and spoken English.Personnel assigned by the contractor to perform the services covered by this task order must be computer literate as patient documentation is directly input in the patient’s electronic medical record.Physical Requirements: The contractor must provide documentation that demonstrates that all contractor employee’s have a satisfactory health status including a current physical, which includes a current TB test and Hepatitis B vaccination. Proof that a two-step tuberculosis skin testing is up-to-date must be received prior to starting employment. If the provider has had a negative test within the past 12 months, a single step test will be done. In both inst! ances, documentation must be received prior to starting.

Contr! actor must also provide documentation that demonstrates that the contractor employee has a history of chicken pox, varicella vaccine, or a positive immune status for Varicella and has non-restricted physical ability to perform assignments.
